Bob’s Pickle Patch

Untitled

This is Martha Stewart.  I named her that because she always gets out and comes up to the house.  She enjoys walking around the yard and rearranging the mulch in my flower gardens.  Just what I didn’t want!  But she’s happy, anyway.  So far, no chickens have made it onto the front porch.  That would be just too much!  All of the hens go out to their pasture every day.  That’s why the yolks are so yellow — green grass, clover, and bugs.  (They loved the locusts.)

The mama Ameraucana hen is sitting on eggs again.  Her first batch of chicks are now almost seven weeks old, and we still have three of them.

We have eggs at Local Bounty today, Tuesday.  Hope you all had a great holiday weekend.  In case you are going to still more picnics, remember, if you take hard boiled eggs, potato salad, or deviled eggs, keep them on ice until they are all gone.

If you are hard boiling the small eggs, here is the perfect method:

Cover the eggs in a pan with cold water

Add about 3 or 4 Tablespoons of salt per quart of water.

Start the water boiling, and then turn off the heat.

Let the eggs sit in the hot water, with a lid on the pan, for just 10 minutes (15 to 18 minutes for large eggs).

Pour off the hot water and fill the pan with cold water.  Keep cooling the eggs with cold water.

When they are cold, you can crack and peel.  Boiling them in salt water makes them easier to peel.

Thanks for your support.
