Tour museum’s WWI exhibit with curator Bill Given
COSHOCTON – It’s one thing to see an English splatter mask or a German “potato masher” grenade, but quite another to hear the background stories about how and why they were made. You’ll have a chance to hear about these two items plus learn more about the history and technology of World War I at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum on Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
Bill Given, curator of the museum’s special exhibit, Remembering the Great War, will give a tour of the show. Hundreds of collectibles are on display from uniforms, helmets and regulation supplies to presentation swords, hate belts and trench art. Given has been researching and collecting military items for more than 30 years. Admission for the WWI Exhibit Tour with Bill Given is $4 for adults, $3 for students, and free for Friends of the Museum.
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum will offer monthly programs to commemorate the 100th anniversary of WWI through 2017. This year’s programs include WWI Firearms with Jerry Meyer on Oct. 17, Family Stories on Nov. 14, and Film Night—Joyeux Noel on Dec. 12. The special exhibit, Remembering the Great War, will be on display through Dec. 31.
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is open daily from noon to 5 p.m. through October and is located at 300 N. Whitewoman St., in Historic Roscoe Village.
