Mark’s Musings – October 19, 2016
Fall is heating up. Literally. At least today it is. The thermometer is forecast to be an “unseasonably warm” 80 degrees or more. Of course we will take it. I think cooler temperatures are headed our way later this week.
Let’s shift to some really cool local activities – the Apple Butter Stirrin’ is happening this weekend at Roscoe Village. Always a favorite festival of mine-the crunch of leaves underfoot and the crunch of nice, juicy apples for the taste buds. Let alone that awesome apple butter itself. Throw some of that on a piece of homemade bread, cornbread or a cracker and you are set indeed. So make some plans now to come on out and enjoy a fall-tastic weekend!
This weekend is also the annual Fall Farm Foliage tour – Saturday and Sunday. The pickup point for your map – which is the only way to know where you are going on this wonderful tour through the countryside of northwest Coshocton County – is the Walhonding Valley Fire Station in Warsaw. That’s across from Roberta’s restaurant and next to Warsaw Dari-land. Enjoy!
How many of you went to bed like I did and missed one of the greatest Buckeye comebacks and wins of all time? Come on, just admit it already. That’s okay. It’s already an ESPN classic. And I know who won. The impact of the showdown with TTUN is mounting. Would we want it any other way?
Speaking of sports – some local highlights – the RV boys won the ECOL soccer title on Saturday in a match against Dover. The extra motivation – if any was needed – no doubt came from Coach Mike Burr. We are thinking of you Mike. Congrats to the River View boys varsity soccer team!
RV Cross Country boys and girls teams are headed to the district meet! Way to go.
How ‘bout them Indians? Cleveland of course. The Tribe is headed to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays in game three, four and possibly game five north of the border. Go Tribe!
Could we be looking at an Indians versus Cubs World Series? It would be a classic to remember. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves as the Dodgers are not going to go away quietly as proven by a 1-0 win on Sunday night throttling the Cubs typical heroics and late inning comebacks.
Browns – do we need to even mention this team? The number one draft pick is where they’re headed. If there is a positive, that would be it.
Could anything else happen in regard to this year’s Presidential election? Of course it could. Perhaps the final debate will take on an air of class and truly “Presidential” decorum. Doubtful but I remain hopeful and optimistic. Hopefully moderator Chris Wallace will keep the debate banter on track and on task.
Have you taken a trip down the Scarecrow Trail at Clary Gardens yet? Our very own Beacon team placed third and we are proudly boasting about that to anyone that will listen! Or read it in this column. Mark stayed out of this one thankfully. I would have just messed it up. But our team outdid themselves. Way to go team!
