Local Bounty Update
Manager Notes
Good morning, local foodies! What a beautiful weekend! It’s the time of the year for evening fires. Stop in to get your fire starters from Flying Pig Farm.
You know what else is great on a fire? Chili in a cast iron pot. I just had some awesome taco chili at a get together this weekend.
Stop in to get your chili items! We have peppers, onions, garlic, leeks, chili’s, round beef, sausage and ground lamb.
We also have tickets left for Sharing the Rough Documentary. This will be showing tonight at the Triple Locks Theater at 7 p.m. If you don’t already have a ticket, you can buy one at the door.
We still have a few seats for the Winter Squash Class.
Wishing you all a happy week!
Kind regards,
Kristie
Vendor Updates
Strawberry Hill Farm
It’s back to milder weather this week, which will keep the gardens going for a while longer. The light frost we had at the farm didn’t do much damage. Our kale row is looking lush and beautiful, and we’ve restocked our Winterbor kale at the store. We also brought in more sweet peppers (bumper crop this year!) and eggs from our hens on pasture.
Windy Hill Farm
A fresh batch of Peanut Butter cookies and White Trash party mix is in the store and the cooler is restocked with rhubarb. Try this delicious sauce for pork and other meats using rhubarb. Trust me, you will get lots of recipe requests for this!
Baked Rhubarb & Orange Sauce: 4 C. diced fresh rhubarb, 2 fresh oranges (diced), 1 C. sugar, 1/8 tsp. salt, 2 sticks whole cinnamon, 12 whole cloves, tied in a bag. Place all ingredients in a 1-quart casserole. Cover and bake in a preheated oven (350 F) for 1 hour or until rhubarb is tender. Remove spice bag. Serve warm or chilled over pork, chicken or lamb.
Flying Pig Farm
Now is the time to try our pastured chicken! We supplement with non-GMO feed only. We’ve noticed a big difference in flavor between our chicken and organic store brands – it’s better! And our prices are better too! Our grass fed beef is delicious as well. Thank you for shopping local!
Our Garden
Our Garden has more fall veggies for you:
- potatoes (in red, gold, and blue),
- sweet potatoes (in red, white, and orange),
- leeks,
- cabbage,
- fall squash (acorn, buttercup, butternut, carnival, and spaghetti),
- pumpkins (as well as the fall squash make great soups),
- kale (green or purple),
- collards,
- lettuce
New this week is white turnips (the ones with the purple tint!) But till then, enjoy roasting:
- eggplant,
- onions,
- garlic,
- peppers (jalapeno, habanero, med-hot block, sweet banana, and the hottest Carolina reaper).
We will restock again on Thursday, so if you don’t see something in the store that you would enjoy this weekend, please place an order online at ourgarden.eatfromfarms.com and pick it up at Bounty.
Thanks for supporting the many hands at Our Garden!
Keene Creek Farm
Our freezer at Local Bounty is *packed* with lots of pastured pork options to help feed your family. Ham loaf is back and is flying out of the freezer as we anticipated. No worries though, we had the butcher shop make lots. So we shouldn’t run out anytime soon. We have lots of fresh brats (mild Italian, bratwurst seasoned and Cajun). Next week, we will likely have the *new* beer brats to offer. We’ve also stocked plenty of bulk sausage and sausage patties. This fall has been just beautiful. Our cows and pigs love this weather too – they’re out enjoying the pasture from sun up to sun down.
