Presbyterians recognize Snyder’s 40 years of music ministry
COSHOCTON – The Presbyterian Church, North Fourth and Chestnut Streets, Coshocton, will celebrate Epiphany on Sunday, Jan. 8. Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Jonathan T. Carlisle will preach on “What’s in Your Treasure Chest?” Musical leadership will be provided by organist Alice M. Hoover, the Chancel and Crusaders Choirs and Celebration Singers, and by E. Luane Campbell, flute, and Mark D. Wagner, harpsichord.
The service will also include a 40th anniversary celebration for staff member Charles R. Snyder. Hired as assistant to the minister, he began work on Jan. 1, 1977 with the congregation’s Christian education ministries as his major focus. The Geneva Hand bell Choir was added a few months later, and he began work with the Crusaders Choir in the fall of 1979. He was named minister of music and education in January 1980, and was also responsible for youth ministry for seven of those years. Since 2000, his responsibilities have focused on music ministry. Since then, four new choirs have been added to the five existing ensembles. A reception in his honor will follow worship.
The church will celebrate also New Year’s Day on Sunday, Jan. 1. Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel (just inside the doors from the parking lot off Fourth Street). Mrs. Sharon Sutton will be the guest preacher and her sermon is titled “Hope, Joy and Peace for the New Year.” Musical leadership will be provided by organist Mark D. Wagner, and a vocal duet by seniors Morgan Lawrence and Maggie Myers.
All are invited to join in these celebrations. Preschool childcare will be provided and ample parking is available.
