RVHS student organizes law enforcement appreciation activities
WARSAW – National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 9. This day honors the 900,000 officers that put on a badge every day. According to the Associated Press, 135 officers were killed in the line of duty in 2016. This was an increase of 10 percent since 2015. Many suggestions were listed on the nationalcops.org site to show appreciation.
Aselya Sposato, a senior at River View High School, is focusing on increasing patriotism and citizenship in the schools as her goal for her senior project. She encouraged students and staff to wear blue on Jan. 9 as well as have the classes sign individual thank you posters. Sposato then presented Sheriff Rogers with the four cards after school on Jan. 9. She, also, created two bulletin boards to show appreciation for all officers. Cindy Hemming is her mentor. Sposato is captain of the varsity cheerleaders, and they are shown all wearing blue. In the next picture she is presenting the cards to Sheriff Rogers.
