How did I miss it? The Columbus Blue Jackets win streak of course. It ended last Thursday evening against the Washington Capitals in a 5-0 loss – but winning 16 games straight in the NHL is something to be proud of. Right now the Blue Jackets have more wins than the defending Stanley Cup Champion Penguins. The hockey season is a long one and can be filled with more holes than a Minnesota lake in the winter. (For fishing of course)
But the Blue Jackets are making memories and have a great start to the season. Good luck!
Much has been written about the National Championship game that pits Alabama against Clemson. Of course, I am writing this prior to the game on Monday, Jan. 9. My prediction – Clemson 24 – Alabama 20.
Speaking of memories the folks at River View honored the 2006 and 2007 Lady Bears state title teams on Friday evening, Jan. 6 at the high school. You can read the article inside this week’s Beacon.
Folks continue to stop in the office or send us an e-mail telling us how much they like and appreciate The Beacon. We appreciate the support of the community for without that we would not be able to provide the weekly publication for Coshocton County that strives to deliver a weekly dose of good news.
The number of households that receive The Beacon continues to climb – and in fact, is up over 10% year over year. We are humbled by that growth – yet we know that there is more to be done. And more that we can do.
This week, we are bringing you a new feature that many of our readers have clamored for in the past. Working in cooperation with local funeral homes we are now publishing death notices in the public record section of The Beacon. We cannot provide this service without the help of our local funeral homes and we greatly appreciate their help to make this possible. As always, our readers are welcome to let us know if something is lacking in The Beacon.
We have also ramped up our local high school sports coverage and will continue to improve this as we know it is an area that people crave. Again, we thank the coaches and administrators that make this possible.
We have added a handful of local correspondents to write local feature stories, cover some of the sports and more events. Our goal is always to cover and write about positive local happenings. This is a tall task – and what we have found is that there is so much more positive happening in our community than not. In fact, we would go so far as to say that is a huge and vast difference.
We think that is a testament to the people of Coshocton County. When people know that you are focused on the positive they feel inclined in many cases to let you know what is happening. We are so grateful to everyone that lets us know what is happening at the local level – you help make The Beacon positively possible. Thank you.
