Guy D. Jackson
NEWARK- Guy Dunn Jackson, 92, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.
He was born April 15, 1924 in Cowen, WV to the late Ballard Preston and Josie Audrus (Wilson) Jackson. He was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps before joining the Army during WWII. He was a motor sergeant from 1945-1947. He retired in 1984 after over thirty years as a diesel mechanic for E&L Transport of Lorain. He was an avid hunter, and a well known “junker”, that was constantly buying, selling, and trading. He enjoyed repairing old farm tractors and lawn mowers. He loved to lend a hand to his neighbors and his community. People knew, if they needed something done, call Guy. He was a member of The Church of God at God’s Acres in Newark.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda G. (Lightner)Jackson of Newark, whom he married July 11, 1999; his children, Linda (Bill) Prior of Delaware, Lana (Mike) Wilgore of Wellington, Larry Jackson of Louisville, KY, Lola (Orie) Richards of DeGraff, Guy D. “Buzz” Jackson II of Lewistown, and Jeanette (Mike) Vaughn of Beaverton, MI; three step-children, Malynda (Charles) Blakeman of Pedro, Warren Dennis Wilson of Ironton, Audra Janene (Edward) Fox of Milton, KY; nineteen grandchildren; six step-grandsons; thirty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Donald Jackson of West Lafayette.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma (Arvanna) Jackson, a son, Benny Preston Jackson; a step-son, Raymond Eugene Wilson; four brothers, Howard, Elmer and Charles Jackson, and an infant brother; a sister, Laura Laflin; a daughter-in-law, Shirley (Jeffers) Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 at The Church of God at God’s Acres, 675 N. Cedar St. Newark, OH 43055, with Brother Roger Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Darling Run Cemetery near Warsaw, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
