Warsaw State of the Village
I am happy to bring to you a positive report as I present the State of the Village Address. Financially we finished, once again, in the black for 2016, thanks to a very knowledgeable Fiscal officer, an excellent Village Administrator and committed council members.
However, there are others who help make this a “good year’s report”. Things have gone smoothly in 2016! So I also want to express my appreciation to those who work so hard conducting the physical work with our streets and sewer and water departments. For our water clerk who keeps great records and does the billings. We are thankful for his knowledge. Our deputy continues, again this past year, to perform professionally and also bring safety and peace to the Village.
Our sexton, at the Valley View Cemetery, has proven to be very valuable and the committee has kept our cemetery not only looking nice, but very organized.
The Rec. Committee enabled many young people to enjoy another season of ballgames and activities.
To all volunteers of boards, committees who give to the Village, I’m very thankful.
Turning to some highlights and accomplishments within the Village in 2016, they range from a very well organized and successful celebration of the 50th Annual Park Social with a wonderful fireworks display, to the use of village property for filming of a scene in a movie named “The Y”. In May of 2016, the first monthly council meeting was held here in the new building. The cooperation between the Coshocton Commissioners, the Coshocton EMS and the village of Warsaw proved to be very rewarding to all involved and a great asset for the residents of the surrounding community. A dedication of the new facility was held September 25th with an open house.
The addition of lights on #3 ball field at the River View Park was another project which involved many different entities and volunteers. To them I say thanks and recognize this is another step in making the River View Park here in our Village one of the best in the area. We also had a very successful summer at the pool, thanks to our Pool Manger; Fiscal Officer and those who worked there.
The 7th Annual Parktoberfest was held on September 24th with our annual Chili Cook-off. We had great weather and lots of hard work by local people and groups which gave us an outstanding Memorial Day celebration and parade.
The Christmas Candlelighting Service and Parade was also blessed with great weather, as over 250 people attending. The annual sidewalk sale was another of the successful activities that took place last year.
The residents were also blessed with the resurfacing of some streets and allies, thanks to the use of levy money, in cooperation with the County Engineer’s office. The sale of timber on property of the Village is bringing in funds for the future Park improvements and upkeep.
We went through another long and costly audit by the State, which ended up giving us a good report. Showing the Community and State that our local government is not only good stewards with the income we have to work with, but also there is integrity and commitment to do things right within all of the phases of the working body of the Village of Warsaw.
The loss of the Bank has not been good for the Village, residents or businesses. This is something we’ve worked to correct, but after meeting with the different institutions we’ve not been able to find anyone to come here.
We will continue to search for and work to bring a bank back to Warsaw. We need to stay positive. We’re not giving up!
In closing I want to, once again, thank everyone who has helped make the State of the Village a positive report. I also challenge the Village Council, Village employees, business owners, organizational leaders and every resident of the village of Warsaw to go into 2017 working together in unity, projecting a positive attitude in the community and expecting great things to take place in 2017.
Thank you and may God bless you and may God bless the Village of Warsaw.
Mayor Ron Davis
