Rust Decor to open one weekend a month
COSHOCTON – Jennifer Coffman loves to take something old and make it new and she will now be sharing her talents with the public one weekend a month.
Rust Decor at 1247 E. Main St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays the first weekend of every month.
“I want to be consistent so people will remember and during my in-between time I’m going to get new things in so there is always something different here,” Coffman said.
The ‘rust’ in her store’s name is an acronym for reclaim unique salvage things and that is exactly what her shop will feature. Coffman will have items she’s given new life to and new pieces from places like Park Hill, a home decor company that according to its website blends American primitive with rural European Antiques.
“I’m going to order in small quantities so the next time people come in I can have a whole different set of pieces out,” Coffman said.
Customers also will be able to shop for jewelry offered by her daughter, Elle Coffman, and for clothing from Shop Stevie an online women’s clothing company that she is a sales rep for. Plus Memory Lane by Jennifer Darr will have some of her unique creations for sale at Rust Decor.
Darr and Coffman have traveled to a lot of shows together and that is how she first got started selling her creations.
“I got great feedback from the shows and still hope to travel some,” Coffman said.
Her husband, Greg has been a big help with getting Rust Decor going.
“It really all started with Greg,” Jennifer said. “He loved to find things at auctions and go ‘picking’ and I didn’t. He’d tell me something was cool and I’d say no. We ended up with a lumber yard full of stuff and I wanted a job so I started refurbishing pieces. He fixes things that are wobbly or need a little work and I do the painting and decorating. I love being creative. It’s my getaway.”
She does a lot of custom work and will keep an eye out for items that people request. Lately she has been redoing many tables and dressers and one dresser on display at the store was turned into a wine rack.
“I love taking old and mixing it with new,” Jennifer said. “I also love it when my husband says something is really ugly and there is no way I can make it look good and then I do something like take a basic table I have now and turn it into a farmhouse piece.”
Prices of items in the store range from around $12 to $400.
“For Coshocton I think we have good prices,” Jennifer said. “We were at a show in Columbus once and someone beside us said our prices were too low. They didn’t do so well, but we did excellent.”
