Donald Allen Stroup
COSHOCTON – Donald Allen Stroup, age 64, of Coshocton, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from complications from diabetes. He was born in Coshocton County on November 10, 1952, to the late Tom and Margaret (Burgess) Stroup.
Don graduated from Coshocton High School in 1971 and worked for 42 years at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. He worked for Dr. Donald Warren as assistant to the Coroner in the mid 1970’s and then later with Dr. Robert Gwinn. He worked for Robert Dawson, driving ambulance for many years, was an Auxiliary Deputy at the Coshocton County Sheriff’s office and was a phlebotomist for the Sheriff’s office, worked at Hope Clinic, and worked for Health Services/Hospice which is now Community Hospice of Coshocton County.
Don drove the Blood Mobile for the American Red Cross, worked at health and wellness fairs, was a phlebotomist for insurance companies, and was also a Diabetic Instructor. He had a passion for music and a love of animals. Don never met a stranger; he truly cared about people and helping those in need in Coshocton County.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda (Womer) Stroup; his children, T.J. and his wife Becky (Wagner) Chaney of Westerville and Shelley Chaney and her fiancé Dennis Rhoades of Zanesville; grandchildren, Dalton and Hannah Chaney and Simon and Jack Chaney; one great-granddaughter, Zaylah Chaney; sisters, Jo Kaser, Patty Fike, and Kathy Stroup-Wright; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Maggie.
Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by brother, Kim E. Stroup, a stillborn sister, Lori Stroup and his sister, Jayne Miller.
Calling hours for Don will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Given-Dawson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Lloyd Tenney officiating. Per Don’s wishes, a cremation will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don’s name to Community Hospice of Coshocton County, Shiloh Baptist Church/Homeless Organization, or the Coshocton County Animal Shelter. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
