Young Farms
We have good news and bad news. We have beef scheduled to go to the processor, however it won’t be ready until mid-March. When it is ready though, we will have all your favorite cuts. Steaks, sirloin patties, roasts, bulk burger, and if there is anything specific you would like, be sure to tell the girls in the store and I will try to get those cuts in. Until then, there is still plenty of grass fed burger available from Flying Pig Farm in our freezer! Thank you for your continued support of Local Bounty and don’t forget to tell your friends and family about us so after our grant is over we can keep the store open convenient hours and continue bringing you great local products!

Hand Hewn Farm
Here at Hand Hewn Farm we have been very busy with on (and off) farm butcher workshops! Clients can learn how to break down their own pigs with our help and guidance! At Local Bounty we have stocked the shelves with parted chicken including some hearts and liver. Our chickens were pasture raised and supplemented with non-gmo feed. We will have more of our woodland raised pork in just a few more months!
Flying Pig Farm
We have plenty of grass fed ground beef! We restocked the chest freezer so stock up now. We also stocked our pastured chicken in the upright freezer. We have packages of cut up whole chickens…easy to roast with some potatoes and carrots for a complete meal. Check out our soup and rice mixes. Chili is a favorite in our house with our ground beef or some of our cubed chicken breasts. There is a whole basket in the lower shelf of the upright freezer.
Keene Creek Farm
This spring-like weather has us thinking spring. And, along with spring comes Easter. We will have smokehouse hams available for Easter celebrations again this year – by pre-order only. You’ll have your choice of whole or half (whole are 18-20 lbs, halves are 9-10 lbs), bone in or bone out, $5.25/lb, and pick up will be at Local Bounty. All of our smoked meats, including hams, are dry cured (the old-fashioned way) and hung in a wood-fired smokehouse for 10 days. We greatly appreciate your dedication to our small family farm and look forward to helping feed you and yours this year.

Mullet Apiaries –
Taking advantage of the warm weather, many beekeepers checked their hives this weekend, finding both thriving hives and unfortunately, dead ones. There are many causes for dead hives this time of year, diseases for one, but also the fact that this year the fall into winter months were mild and the bees were active but it was a sparse year for fall flowers and nectar. That means they ate more of their stores than normal and ran out of food. It’s one of the many challenges for a beekeeper to manage when raising honey bees. The girls do work hard to bring us a sweet treat and there is still plenty available at the Local Bounty. As always, we appreciate your business!
Bob’s Pickle Patch/ Verda’s Hens
Last year my Ameracauna hens decided to go broody, so I let them raise a brood. We got three roosters, so two of them went to the sale. Then the girls decided to raise another brood in July. These did not do well and only one hatched. I called it Fred, because I thought — just another rooster. Well now Fred is nearly full grown, and definitely not a rooster, but hasn’t laid an egg yet. I’m waiting to see if Fred will lay blue eggs or brown. She looks like a black Autralorp. Bob says we should call her Freida, but I like the sound of “Fred the hen.”
We have plenty of eggs at Local Bounty, and I will bake again on Wednesday and bring in small pies and black bean brownies.
Here is a chicken joke from Terese:
Why did the chicken roost in the middle of the road?
She wanted to lay it on the line.
Thanks for shopping at Local Bounty.
