Hospital receives community improvement award
COSHOCTON – Bill Owens presented the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce Community Improvement award to a place that played an important role in his life – Coshocton Regional Medical Center.
“They are near and dear to me because I was born there,” he said.
Owens, a member of the chamber board, had the pleasure of presenting the community improvement award at the chamber’s luncheon on Jan. 26 at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.
“Our local hospital has been in existence for well over 100 years,” he said. “They had some recent problems like a lot of hospitals in the country because of government regulations and other issues, but they have survived and been saved and will continue to serve the community.”
Owens said one of the top questions the chamber gets from companies looking at our area is about the type of medical services available here.
“They want to know what type of medical care is here and how quickly they can get to it but in 2016 the hospital was facing bankruptcy and an uncertain future and so were we,” he said. “Prime Healthcare came in though and saved the hospital and jobs.”
The award was accepted at the luncheon by the hospital’s Director of Marketing Mary Ellen Given, Director of Clinic Operations Melissa Snider and Interim Chief Financial Officer Ken Payne. Also on hand for the presentation were two of the hospital’s new board members Danny Brenneman and Jesse Fischer.
“We are not here as individuals but as representatives of the over 400 people that work at the hospital,” Given said. “We are all enthusiastic about new opportunities in healthcare as we complete our conversion to the Prime Healthcare family.”
She shared that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes right now, but soon the public will see upgrades to the hospital’s emergency department, inpatient rooms and front entrance.
