Ben Batchelor signs with the University of Findlay
COSHOCTON – Shelley Batchelor was a little teary eyed after watching her son Ben sign his letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Findlay.
“I’m extremely proud of him,” she said. “He’s worked extra hard for this. Soccer is his love and now he gets to live his dream of playing in college.”
Ben is a senior at Coshocton High School and played center midfield for the Redskins.
“I have a passion for the game of soccer and love the freedom you have on the field,” he said.
Like his parents, Shelley and Bob, he too was excited to see his hard work pay off on Feb. 8, when he officially committed to Findlay. Ben also knew he couldn’t have gotten to this moment alone.
“I have to thank my parents, my brother, my teammates and my coaches, Brian Dunlap, Brandon Matz and Tony Jones,” he said. “I learned at an early age what it took to get here and I never gave up.”
Ben plans to major in education next fall at Findlay.
“The coach from there reached out to me and I got to talk to a lot of the players and just knew it’s where I wanted to go,” he said.
Findlay is an NCAA Division II school and last year its men’s soccer team finished the 2016 season 7-10-1.
“Shelley and I are very excited for him and his opportunity to compete as an NCAA athlete,” Bob said.
