Wild game dinner expected to fill up

COSHOCTON COUNTY – Alligator, bison, turtle, venison and homemade pizza are on the menu at this year’s Chili Crossroads Bible Church wild game dinner, but you will want to be sure to get your ticket for the meal in advance.
“It’s filling up fast,” said Pastor Neal Dearyan. “I doubt there will be any tickets available at the door.”
The Seventh annual Tri-County Wild Game Dinner will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the church located at 29455 County Road 10.
Last year almost 400 people attended the event and Dearyan said they made some changes to make it more comfortable for attendees.
“It’s great for us to see that many people come here, but if you are the one standing in line with kids it’s not fun,” he said.
The church decided to charge for this year’s dinner and serve family style instead of having a buffet set up. This way they have a better idea of how many people to expect and everyone can at least get to sample the dishes. Plus, money is raised to send youth to church camp.
“It’s a win/win situation, but most importantly the kids benefit and they will be there helping at the event,” said Julie Dearyan, Neal’s wife.
She is planning on serving up some alligator nuggets, possibly bison sliders and a turtle gumbo at the dinner and guests are welcome to bring dishes to share.
Also new this year will be a chili cook off and returning is the atomic wing contest, which purchasing a wild game dinner ticket qualifies you for.
The dinner is limited to 180 tickets and they can be purchased for $10 each in advance at Woodbury Outfitters, Kidron Sports Center, Charm Outdoors or online at www.chilibiblechurch.org/wild. Anyone wanting to take a chance on tickets at the door will have to pay $15 a piece for them. Children 10 and under are half price.
“It’s a really great experience and it’s always packed no matter what the weather is,” Julie said.
