Cub Scouts host annual Blue and Gold Dinner

COSHOCTON – Cub Scout Pack 403 celebrated the birthday of the Cub Scouts during the annual Blue and Gold dinner on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Sacred Heart School. The dinner was catered by Schumaker Farms.
The Cub Scouts started in 1930 and for 87 years, the organization has held an annual birthday party celebrating the Cub Scouts and all they do for their community.
“We have a dinner every year and the boys who have earned awards are presented with their awards,” said Michael Woolery, Scout Master. “Each scout was asked to make a birthday cake to raffle off and this year, we’ve invited area businesses to come out and support the raffle. All the money raised will go to pay for camp scholarships.”
Thirty-four boys are registered in Pack 403 and come from all the major school districts in the county. Sacred Heart Church Knights of Columbus is their charter organization and provides their housing. In return, the Cub Scouts care for the church grounds.
“We support a lot of elderly people in the community and are active in recycling and picking up trash,” said Georgina Rivera, Webleos Den Leader, “We participate in a lot of other community activities where we are needed.”
She said Cub Scouts teaches the boys to always do their best in everything they do.
“Our mission is to always do your best and to serve God and country, and always help others,” she said. “That’s what we strive for with these boys. We want them to be proud of their country, their flag, and to help other people.”
