Muskingum University choirs to perform locally
COSHOCTON – The Muskingum University Concert Choir and the select Chamber Singers will sing at The Presbyterian Church, N. Fourth and Chestnut Streets, Coshocton, on Thursday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Custer Chapel.
The 48-member ensemble will present their 2017 winter tour program, titled “The World That Is to Be.” It will include music that explores topics of life, love, and hope for the future. Repertoire will include works by Monteverdi, Telemann, Copland, Paulus, Sondheim, and Leonard Cohen; hymns and spiritual songs from America, Korea, Serbia, Germany, and the Bahamas; plus premieres of new works by Jake Runestad and Zebulon Highben.
Area singers include Ryan Burkhart, Alex Clark, D.J. Harper, Christopher Lawler, Nik Leasure, Brian Lewis, Levi Masters, Anthony Palmer, Jessica Palmer, Lindsey Prouty, Elijah Shaw, Chandra Smitley, and Connor Wheeler. Five members of the choir also sing with the Coshocton Community Choir.
Dr. Zebulon M. Highben, director of choral activities at Muskingum, will conduct the ensembles, and Caroline S. Heading of Coshocton is the accompanist.
This local concert by the Muskingum Choir has become a Coshocton tradition, and all are invited. An offering will be received to help offset the choirs’ travel expenses.
