Community garden to start up again this year
The Coshocton Community Garden is starting back up this year. Planters can call 740-623-0685 to reserve your plots.
COSHOCTON – The Coshocton Community Garden was started about seven years ago by David Lozowski. After a few years, the garden was closed for about two to three years due to a family member being diagnosed with a major illness. Now, David’s daughter, Gretchen Lozowski, will reinstate the garden beginning in April.
“We were doing a senior project this year at River View High School and I thought it would be a good idea to bring it back because I know people really enjoyed it,” said Gretchen.
The garden is 30 by 60 yards and has a total of 30 plots. It is located in between Buehler’s and the Family Physician’s Clinic on Brown’s Lane.
“We will have it tilled and the plots will be marked,” said Gretchen. “But the community is responsible for growing their own produce and keeping their plot clean. As long as you keep your plant in your own plot and it doesn’t grow over into someone else’s, you can plant whatever you want.”
Planting usually begins at the end of April or beginning of May. The plots are free and planters should have their plots emptied by October or November so the garden can close for the year. Water and a hose are provided.
The Community Garden is for anyone, but is mostly used by people who live in the city and do not have room to garden on their property. To reserve your plots, call 740-623-0685.
