Bunny Hop 5k to be held in Warsaw

| March 17, 2017

WARSAW – DK Races and Events will host its first Bunny Hop 5k and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, April 8 at the River View Community Park. This will be their first Easter-themed race. Other races they have done recently were Catch Me If You Can, Jingle Bell Jangle, and Bacon and Legs Race.

Same-day registration begins at 8 a.m. for the 5k and 8:45 a.m. for the kids’ fun run. The 5k will begin at 9 a.m. Registration fee will be $20 for kids and $30 for adults.

For each race, DK Races and Events gives a portion of its proceeds to a local charity. Proceeds from this race will be given to the Warsaw Park Association.

The course for the kids’ fun run will stay in the park, but the 5k run will start at the park and extend to the elementary school, through downtown Warsaw, and then back at the park.

The kids’ fun run is for kids 12 years old and under. Children 12 and under can also participate in the 5k as well if they want. Each kid who participates in the fun run will receive a medal.

The 5K will give medals to the top two finishers and the top three male and female finishers in each age category. There will also be Easter-themed chocolate treats for all participants at the end of the race.

DK Races and Events can help residents put on their own race, help them organize a race, and give a checklist to people who are planning area races.

“We enjoy doing that because it helps other organizations raise money for their own charities,” said Kelly Treat of DK Races and Events.

Treat, along with friend and co-founder Dustin Haywood, have been organizing races for the past six years and has been an official business for two years.

“We got into it because we felt like there was a need, and this could be a little niche area we could put our stamp on,” said Treat. “We need more events in our community for young and old and families. Many people are also on a fitness journey to some degree. If we can help them along on their journey and spark a motivation for them, that’s another reason we decided to do this.”

Treat said she and Haywood’s goal is for Coshocton to host a half-marathon. They are hoping to make this a short-term goal and invite other people to come from all over the state.
