RVHS track team wins Black Bear Relay Meet

WARSAW – The River View High School Track and Field team started the 2017 season on a successful note at the annual Black Bear Relay meet, held at the high school’s Don Rushing Stadium on Saturday, March 25.

Out of six teams in attendance, the Black Bear men’s team finished first overall, while the women’s team finished second overall. The other schools in attendance were: Newark, Mount Vernon, East Knox, Fredericktown, and Lakewood.

The Black Bear Relay meet promotes a team-oriented approach, in which every event (including field events) are judged and scored as team events. There are no individual events.

Highlights for the women’s team included first place finishes for the 4×100 and 4×200 teams, both of which are comprised of Cassidi Bookless, Karlie Lahna, Jesse Vandenbark, and Alicia Lonsinger. A first place finish for the sprint medley team of Karlie Lahna, Marie Stufflebean, Skyler Stewart, and Cassidi Bookless. A first place finish for the high jump team of Brooklyn Douglass, Skyler Stewart, and Shayla Courtright. A first place finish for the 4×400 team of Cassidi Bookless, Jesse Vandenbark, Macy Hill, and Alicia Lonsinger. A second place finish for the 4×100 “field event member” team of Kassidy Lahna, Grace James, Patty Vatter, and Tala Yager. A second place finish for the long distance medley team of Karlie Lahna, Katie Stanton, Macy Hill, and Rachel Allen. A third place finish for the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle team of Brooklyn Douglass, Laci Jacobs, Skyler Stewart, and Marie Stufflebean. A third place finish for the girls’ shot put team of Kassidy Lahna, Grace James, and Tala Yager. And, a third place finish for the triple Jump team of Marie Stufflebean, Natalie Kelley, and Stephanie Gunn.

Highlights for the men’s team included a first place finish for the 4×110 shuttle hurdle team of Ethan Fry, Xavier Lewis, Blake Ashcraft, and John Hardesty. A first place finish for the 4×100 “field event member” team of Zannon Hall, Cody Lewis, Evan Beatty, and Jayden Kelly. A first place finish for the pole vault team of Cowen Croft, Hayden Martin, and Ty Collins. A second place finish for the 4×200 team of R.J. Hammond, Isaiah Cameron, D’Angelo Marshall, and Brendan Shrimplin. A second place finish for the sprint medley team of Caden Croft, Austin Klein, D’Angelo Marshall, and R.J. Hammond. A second place finish for the 4×400 team of Isaiah Cameron, Michael Hardesty, Brodie Williamson, and R. J. Hammond. A second place finish for the triple jump team of Devin Barnett, Chase Courtright, and Ryan Caley. A third place finish for the middle distance medley team of Cowen Croft, Devin Barnett, John Hardesty, and Hayden Martin. A third place finish for the long distance medley team of Brodie Williamson, Hayden Martin, Nicolas Grashel, and Michael Hardesty. A third place finish for the shot put team of Cody Lewis, Sam Mitchell, and Evan Beatty. And, a third place finish for the discus throw team of Lucas Lauvray, Evan Beatty, and Zannon Hall.

Future meets for the RVHS track team include the Zanesville Wayne Clark Invitational on March 30, the Newcomerstown Invitational on April 1, and a dual meet vs. Cambridge on April 4.
