Piano competition winners announced
COSHOCTON – On Sunday, April 2, performing before a live capacity audience at the Triple Locks Theater in Roscoe Village, Julia Grimmett, daughter of Leslie and David Grimmett won the Edward E. Montgomery Jr. Piano Competition Junior Division award, a $250 cash prize for her selection of Sonatina, Op.55, #1 in C Major by composer Friedrich Kuhlau. Julia is a seventh grader at Ridgewood Middle School. She has studied piano for 10 years under the direction of Melanie Winn and Joseph Palmer.
The winning competitor in the Senior Division was Grant Cullison, the son of Gloria and Glen Cullison performing Peacherine Rag by composer Scott Joplin. He was awarded a $1,000 cash prize. Grant is in the 11th grade at River View High School and presently studies under the direction of Vicki Davis.
The cash awards are given annually by The Montgomery Foundation to the seventh through 12th grade students whose performances are deemed the most outstanding as scored by a five-judge panel. This marked the 29th year of the prestigious competition. The 2018 competition will be held on Sunday, April 8 at the Triple Locks Theater in Roscoe Village.
