CHS Astro Club plans star party
COSHOCTON – The Coshocton High School Astro Club is planning a star themed evening for the community.
The group’s first Star Party will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, April 21 on the fourth floor of the high school and just outside the cafeteria area. The event is free and will feature food, games, the chance to view stars through the school’s telescope if it’s a clear night, a photo booth, face painting and much more.
“This was all their idea,” said Jason Kodysz, a science teacher at CHS and the club’s advisor.
Kodysz got the club started last year after he realized there were students with an interest in astronomy and is glad to see them using their talents to put on an event for the community.
“I like to do makeup so I’ve been working on galaxy and astrology patterns to paint on children’s faces,” said Dezi Grizzard, who is a senior at CHS and treasurer of the Astro Club. “The star party is a good opportunity to show others my skills and also help them learn about stars and space.”
Senior Skyler Wright is the club’s president and he is looking forward to using the school’s telescope to educate others about space.
“Our club members are very creative and have been working really hard on this party,” he said.
Kodysz said club vice president Alie Gibson has really taken the reins in organizing the star party.
“I like astronomy and am interested in the stars and want to share that with the community,” said Gibson who is a junior at CHS. “I think it’s going to be a fun time to get everyone together. We are going to have a lot of food and activities for kids and adults.”
The event is being paid for by fundraisers, one of which was just recently held at Crowtown Pizza.
“We really appreciate everyone coming out and supporting us,” Gibson said. “I really hope we can make this (the Star Party) an annual event.”
