COSHOCTON – Jordan Carkin is excited about his future.

The Coshocton High School senior signed his letter of intent on April 12 to play football at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Carkin, the son of Brandi and Ben Giesey and Scott Carkin of Coshocton, earned several honors during his last two varsity seasons at CHS. He was 2016 Second Team All Ohio (Div V), 2015 Honorable Mention All Ohio (Div V), 2016 First Team East District, 2015 Second Team East District, 2016 First Team ECOL, 2015 First Team ECOL, 2016 ECOL Defensive Player of the Year, and broke the single season school record for sacks with 11.

“I worked really hard to get to this point and thank my parents and the staff here at Coshocton for pushing me to do my best,” Jordan said. “Being able to play college ball is a great accomplishment.”

Ohio Wesleyan University is a Division III school and the Battling Bishops are part of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Carkin can play center, tight end and defensive end, but isn’t sure where Ohio Wesleyan will use him.

“I will play wherever they want me to as long as I’m helping the team out,” Jordan said.

Tim Fortney, CHS athletic director, said Jordan is one of the most talented and yet unselfish players they’ve ever had at Coshocton.

“His explosiveness off the edge was a distinct advantage for our defense on our final four playoff team this past season,” Fortney said. “We all hope that Jordan continues his success at Ohio Wesleyan University.”

Jordan said he visited other schools but loved Ohio Wesleyan’s campus, the coach and staff there.

“I was a little nervous about this, but I’m happy that it’s over now,” Jordan said. “My advice to the younger guys would be to give it your all and work as hard as you can.”

He is undecided on his major at this time.
