WARSAW – For the second year in a row members of the art club at River View Junior High have left their mark on the school.

Students decorated ceiling tiles that were hung up April 19 in the hallways around the library.

“I hope when people see mine they think about being themselves,” said Jennifer Roderick. “You don’t have to give in to peer pressure. You can go with your own group of friends and not do what everyone else wants you to.”

Kelsey Hartsock and Jared Dobson worked together on a tile that featured a landscape theme.

“It was fun because we got to do what we wanted to do,” Dobson said.

Addie Hagy created her tile design with Haley Frank and Brenna Udder.

“It was a time commitment, but it was worth it,” Hagy said.

Their tile has an orange background and features the silhouette of a girl with the quote, “Attitude is a reflection of character.”

Rodney Stein, who advises the club, said this year’s group was made up of all eighth graders and he plans to keep doing the project with students for as long as he can.

“At a certain point when we think this hallway is full enough we will move to another wing of the school,” he said. “I just think it’s cool that they get to leave their mark.”

Stein saves the tiles that are taken down to use as next year’s canvasses.

“These kids are a lot more talented at this age than I was,” he said. “They are very visual.”
