DSC_0133COSHOCTON – Bairaj Arunasalam, DTM, pictured, who is the International Toastmasters President-Elect for 2016-2017 and will take the reins as President of the organization this summer, stopped in Coshocton on Monday, April 24 and spoke to members of the newly formed Coshocton Toastmasters club. He also toured Organic Technologies while visiting the community.

Arunasalam has been a member of Toastmasters for 28 years in his native country of Sri Lanka. He told the members gathered at the Frontier Power Community Room that, “This club – you get it right – you can do great things. We’re not just a public speaking organization, we are a transformation engine. In ten weeks you can transform people.”

“Speech craft is a very powerful thing. You need 17 to 18 people attending to get the most out of Toastmasters – that means about 30 members. Toastmasters is a walking encyclopedia for life. You must have fun!”

Toastmasters are currently in 145 countries with eight different official languages for the programs around the world. English is the predominant language of the clubs around the world. Toastmasters are about much more than public speaking with a strong emphasis on communications and leadership.

Lisa Mowery is the President of the Coshocton Toastmasters club and Tom Heading is Co-President with Mary Ellen Given serving as secretary. Officers, guests, club members and distinguished Toastmasters district officers were in attendance at the meeting, including Kathleen L. Donovan, Club Growth Director, District 40 for Toastmasters.

The Coshocton Toastmasters club will hold their next meeting on Thursday, May 4 from noon to 1 p.m. at Organic Technologies, located at 545 Walnut Street in Coshocton in the Linnaeus Room. You can follow them on Facebook, email the local club at coshoctontoastmasters@gmail.com or call 740-610-0066 for more information.
