It is a busy time in Coshocton County! May seems to be one of those months that goes by in a blur – and this would be particularly so if you have a graduating senior. Those years go by way too quickly from personal experience.
We are truly fortunate to live in a community that gives and gives and gives some more. The recently concluded Relay for Life, the 22nd annual event for Coshocton County, wrapped up on Saturday at noon at the fairgrounds. A big thanks goes out to all of the participants, team captains, event leaders and all those in our community that bought a hot dog, candy bar, raffle ticket, a luminaria or contributed in any way to this year’s event. A big thank you also needs to go out to the folks that do all of the work behind the scenes for Relay, those that make sure the electric is on, the stage is set, the agenda is ready and all of the work that is taken for granted.
Speaking of the fairgrounds, the grandstand renovation is coming along nicely – take a drive out there and check it out. We are indeed fortunate to have the Coshocton County fairgrounds – a place where you can take a walk among some beautiful trees, enjoy some solitude or attend your choice among the many events held at the fairgrounds. Thanks to all of the folks that keep the fairgrounds going!
It was nice to hear music at the court square last week. Thanks to all those that take the time and energy to keep the Dogwood Festival alive, provide the lunches, music, seating and setup. It is appreciated.
This Sunday afternoon, May 21 at 2:30 p.m., you can enjoy a baccalaureate service at Coshocton High School with NewPointe Community Church Coshocton campus pastor Chad Olinger speaking. At 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, May 21 former RV graduate Alexa Norris will be speaking at the River View baccalaureate. We are fortunate to live in a community that still offers this opportunity for our graduating seniors and their families. Thanks to the organizations that make these events possible. Both of these events are open to the public.
In addition to our many local high school seniors graduating in a couple of weeks we also have many graduating from college and preparing to take the next step in their lives. Good luck to all of you!
It is alumni banquet time and for many it is a joyous occasion to reminisce about “the good ‘ol days” and renew friendships with folks not often seen. People travel from near and far to attend these banquets, whether at one of the county schools, Coshocton or our consolidated high schools. Regardless, it is a good opportunity to see friends.
I can’t write much about the Cavs – except maybe the addition of the Goodyear logo that will adorn their jerseys next season. The Cavs – as all of you know – await the game seven winner between Washington and Boston. Then they head to the Eastern Conference Championship series still undefeated in the playoffs.
The Tribe is in second place, the Reds are in third and the Pirates are in last. Meanwhile, the Yankees, who are in first place, retired Derek Jeter’s number 2 on Mother’s Day during a special ceremony.
