Wow, what a busy week for beekeepers! It’s swarm season and Dick has been getting four, five, six calls a day to come and get swarms in town and in the county. And he’s not the only beekeeper getting calls! Just remember, when you see a swarm, first thing is don’t panic. They are interested in one thing – finding a new home for themselves and their queen. Secondly, call a beekeeper right away so he/she can come and get them as soon as possible, before they settle somewhere you would not want them, like in a hollow of a tree or in a house or barn. Most beekeepers can’t help you then as only a few do what is called a “cutout”. To get the phone numbers of beekeepers willing to get swarms, call the Extension Office, the Sheriff’s office or the Commissioners’ office. And don’t worry, this swarm season will probably be over in a week or two at the most. In the meanwhile, “swarm” into Local Bounty for all kinds of good food, including our honey. Thanks for your business!
Flying Pig Farm
I need to apologize for not getting in our plants last week. After I emailed our article, my 3 year old experienced her first bout with the flu. Needless to say I lost a week. 🙂 As I send this, our little red wagon is filled with broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and a variety of tomatoes. Will are ready to deliver tomorrow morning! If you placed an order it will be ready to pick up. We have many more varieties of tomatoes and peppers at home so please don’t hesitate to let us know what you want. We’ll also bring in some kale and collard greens for the cooler. Thanks for your patience and for shopping local!
