Paul M. Mikesell
COSHOCTON – Paul M. Mikesell, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Walnut Grove Health and Rehabilitation.
Paul was born in Tunnel Hill, Ohio on August 18, 1924 to the late Grover C. and Maude R. (Fry) Mikesell. He grew up in West Bedford, Ohio and graduated from Union High School in 1942. He then graduated from Bliss Business College in Columbus on May 26, 1943.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radioman aboard the Battleship USS Texas from 1943 to 1946. During his tour of duty he was in four major engagements: D-Day Invasion at Normandy, Invasion of Southern France, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.
On March 11, 1951 he married Maude E. Lightell, who preceded him in death May 4, 1994. He retired from Bank Ohio National Bank (currently PNC Bank) as Vice President in 1983 after 37 years of service.
Paul was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, where he served as Financial Secretary for 12 years. He was a life member of Coshocton Elks Lodge 376, American Legion Post 65, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1330, and Wakatomica Masonic Lodge No 0108 F&AM. He was past president of Coshocton Lions Club, treasurer of the American Red Cross for 19 years, and treasurer of the former Coshocton TB and Health Association for 28 years. He was also an avid golfer.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Carol (Tom) Allison of Blaine, WA; a niece Liz (Bruce) Crawford of Clinton PA; nephews, Jerry (Mary) Stenner of Coshocton, Steve (Patti) Stenner of Columbus, and Tom (Irene) Bryan of Coshocton.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Margene (Mikesell) Ogle and one grandson, Travis.
Calling hours for Paul will be held at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home, 186 Park Ave, Coshocton, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at South Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. with the Coshocton County Veterans Council performing military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Community Hospice.
