Thirty-four graduate from opportunity school

The opportunity school held its graduation ceremony on May 24 in Coshocton High School’s McKinley Auditorium. Thirty-four students graduated from the school which meets at Coshocton High School from 2 to 7:30 p.m. and is a dropout prevention and recovery community school. “One student drops out of high school every 26 seconds and there are 1.3 million per year,” said Roger Moore, superintendent of the school. “Today we recognize the hard work and time you put into your decision to become a high school graduate.” Moore said they’ve had 347 graduates since 2007 and the students take the same classes and state tests as other high schools students, but they add volunteer work and classes on building positive relationships to their school days. A care team of community officials also helps them work on overcoming obstacles that might stand in the way of them and their diploma. “Our goal is to get them a diploma and help them out in any way we can to accomplish that,” Moore said.
