Susan’s Fighters organizing a colorful run
CONESVILLE – Susan’s Fighters Relay For Life team are presenting a new 5K with a twist.
The group’s A Flocking Color Run will be held on Saturday, June 17 in Conesville. Registration is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at the picnic shelter near the school and the race starts at 8 a.m.
“It’s a 5k and there are stations throughout the course where people will squirt colored corn starch in the air and it gets all over you, but doesn’t stain,” said Andrea Howell, who is part of Susan’s Fighters.
She is co-captain of the team along with Heather Hindel, whose mother-in-law lost a battle with pancreatic cancer. Since starting the team, Hindel also has lost her father-in-law to cancer.
“Heather went to a color run in Cambridge and really enjoyed it,” Howell said. “We thought it would be something different to do for a fundraiser since we already have our flamingoes that we use to raise funds.”
The pre-registration deadline has passed, but you can still register on race day for $50. Race day registrants, however, are not guaranteed a race kit.
“We have just over 50 pre-registered and we intend to do this every year,” Howell said.
The run is not timed and people are welcome to come check out the colorful action on June 17 to see if they would like to participate next year.
“Once everyone is done those who got registration kits will take out little packets of the colored powder and we are going to bust them all at once for a big group picture,” Howell said.
