Second annual SnyderSTRONG Amazing Race/Hog Roast to be held
COSHOCTON – If you love watching the show Amazing Race on TV, then you need to form a team and join the fun on July 29 when the Second Annual SnyderSTRONG Amazing Race will be held in Coshocton.
“We had 20 teams last year and are hoping to top that this year,” said Stephanie Snyder, co-coordinator of the event, along with Kendra Whiteus. “Last year, they stopped at Triple Locks Theater, Miss Jennifer’s Dance Studio, The Warehouse, the fairgrounds and other places. At each stop, the teams have to complete a challenge to get a clue for the next stop. You don’t need to be in great shape to complete the challenges. This is a family event and we had little kids form a team last year.”
This year has new stops and new challenges, but some challenges teams faced last summer included eating an order of onion rings at the Warehouse, learning and performing a dance routine at Miss Jennifer’s and leading a llama through an obstacle course at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds. The challenges are meant to be fun, not strenuous, and anyone can join the fun.
“We have a prize for the team who completes the race first and also a prize for the best costumed team. Their costumes should go along with their team name,” said Snyder. Prizes will be awarded at the hog roast at Lapp Farms on US 36. The hog roast will be at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited, not just those who participated in the race. Tickets for the hog roast are $12 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Hog roast tickets can be purchased on the same website that teams can use to sign up for the race www.tinyurl.com/ssamazingrace.
Teams need to sign up by July 21 and that is also the last day to preorder hog roast tickets. Snyder said, “If someone just comes that night, we won’t refuse to serve them, but we like to have an idea of the number of people so we can have the right amount of food.” Her mom, Alana Lapp, prepares most of the food.
Registration is $100 per team and all proceeds from both events will go to the SnyderSTRONG Scholarship fund. “We choose two River View High School graduates that are going into the medical field for our scholarship. Interested students can apply through the Coshocton Foundation,” said Snyder.
