Anytime that you can pull together several businesses and organizations throughout the community to create something cool that is a good thing. There are numerous examples of this spread around Coshocton County – the Playvilion at Lake Park is just one example that comes to mind. The most recent example is of course, the artPARK project on Main Street. Combining businesses, students from River View High School and organizations to complete a two year project is a terrific display of what can happen when folks work together for the common good.
Another announcement recently made is the city plan to expand the bike path along the Muskingum River giving residents the opportunity to see one of our truly great assets in action. Obviously, projects like this take time, energy and money. Grants can help of course. Please keep your eyes open for opportunities to help with this positive effort for our community. Expanding the bike path in this direction could also lead to future opportunities for expansion towards Tuscarawas County or someday connect with the trail at Killbuck in Holmes County. Lofty goals sure.
Is your money on home run hitting Aaron Judge in the All Star game home run contest? Judge leads the majors with 30 dingers at the halfway point. By the way, did you know that Judge broke “The Clipper” Joe DiMaggio’s rookie year home run record? Judge stands 6 foot 7 and is 280 pounds of home run hitting might. He is well on his way to a tremendous rookie season. Rookie of the year is probably a forgone conclusion even at the halfway point of the season.
The Tribe takes a 2 and a half game lead over Minnesota into the All Star break with games resuming on Friday. Houston is now 16 and a half games ahead of the Angels. The Cubs are 5 and a half back of the Brewers with the Bucs and the Reds 9 games and 11 and a half games back respectively.
The old saying is that the corn should be knee high by the Fourth of July. Depending on which field you research – and making sure that you are checking corn, not soybeans, which are plentiful this year – you can find corn height ranging several feet in differential. The field I use for my “research” – from the driver’s seat of my car of course – is the field across from the traffic light near Hahn Oil. A couple of weeks ago I thought there was no way that the corn would be knee high by the promised date. Oh, I should have known better. It’s way beyond that now with the right combination of warm temperatures and rain.
We are experiencing some very enjoyable weather this month with relatively low humidity, warm daytime temps and cool night time temps. Ideal growing conditions if my aged memory serves.
The Buckeyes home opener against Oklahoma on Sept. 9 looms large on the schedule with the usual list of weaker opponents rounding out the first few games of the 2017 season. The Buckeyes open on Thursday, Aug. 31 against Indiana in Bloomington. Wisconsin is not on the regular season schedule. I did say regular season.
