Cardinal chorale sings praises for major funding
COSHOCTON – The Cardinal Chorale is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Charles E. & Dorothy S. Bechtol Fund of the Coshocton Foundation to address programming needs associated with its annual music workshop, held on the campus of Muskingum University. Modeled after similar workshops held by legendary choral director Fred Waring and his staff, the week-long experience provides young singers development in body, mind, spirit, and voice. Students sing in rehearsals to study and master repertoire, explore interests in elective and workshop seminars, and build lifelong friendships with other singers and the Chorale staff.
“This gift represents much more than simply providing financial support for our program,” said Charles R. Snyder, director of the Cardinal Chorale. “More than that, it is a vote of confidence in the important work we undertake for the youth of this community and across the state of Ohio. We are humbled and extremely grateful for the staggering generosity of this community.”
Snyder, longtime Coshocton resident and music educator, founded the Cardinal Chorale in 1995, and has served as its artistic director and principal conductor ever since.
The workshop is the beginning of the Chorale’s 23rd annual season, which typically includes concerts in December, February, and a six-day tour in June.
“It really is our springboard event,” said Matt Downing, Chorale staff member. “The experience students have at the workshop lays the groundwork for the special community and artistry Chorale audiences have come to expect. This generous gift empowers us to help these students build the best possible versions of themselves, positively affecting their home communities as well as the audiences we visit throughout the year.”
The Coshocton Foundation was created in 1967, and has awarded more than $7.5 million in unrestricted grants to deserving projects improving communities around Coshocton County.
