Youth invited to experience God’s great outdoors

| July 14, 2017

COSHOCTON – Come experience God’s great outdoors during a special series of events planned by Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for children ages 9-15.

“Our church is pretty small so we wanted to focus on something a little bit more specific and something that seemed to be of great interest to people in our community,” said Pastor Dan Swanson. “Outdoor sports came to mind right away and folks in our church were either outdoor sports people themselves or connected to individuals who are.”

Experiencing God’s Great Outdoors will be held Thursday through Sunday, July 27 -30. All activities are from 9 a.m. to noon except Sunday’s, which will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

On Thursday, July 27 attendees will learn about survival skills at the Dickerson Farm, 44713 State Route 541 West. Friday, July 28 will focus on shooting sports at Woodbury Shooting Range, 41384 State Route 541 West. Saturday, July 29 will center on fishing lessons back at the Dickerson Farm and Sunday, July 30 will be recognition day at Pleasant Hill Church, 43440 State Route 541 West.

Biblical messages will be worked into the day’s lessons.

“We want to present evidence of God in creation and the last piece of each day will center on that,” Swanson said.

The program will wrap up on Sunday, July 30 with the recognition ceremony.

“Our Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. and we are going to incorporate the recognition ceremony into that for those who attend all three days,” Swanson said. “There will be a certificate and gift for each person.”

Parents are encouraged to attend the events.

“The more people present, the better supervision we will have plus outdoor sports can be family times,” Swanson said.

Registration deadline is Sunday, July 23 and there are no fees to participate. For more information, contact Pastor Dan Swanson at 740-828-2042.

“The whole event will center around learning,” Swanson said. “We are hoping this will be a pilot for us to do again in the future.”
