Presbyterian Church to have candlelight worship service
COSHOCTON – The Presbyterian Church, North Fourth and Chestnut streets will have a candlelight worship service at 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
An extended musical prelude will begin at 7:10 p.m. and will include the Roscoe Brass Quintet; organist Alice Hoover; Matt Hayes, marimba; Ron Geese, euphonium; Ann Leppla and Dickie Barrick, piano duet; and Helen Wright and Alice Hoover, organ and keyboard duet.
Advent candles will be relit, the Kilchenman Family will light the Christ candle and Tucker Nelson will bring Jesus to the crèche manger. The Christmas story will be told in scripture, poetry, story and song. Music will be provided by the Chancel, Crusaders and Carol Choirs, Celebration Singers, and soloists Matt Downing, Nathan Shutt and Julie Smith. Pastor Jonathan T. Carlisle will tell a Christmas story and Robert W. Millspaugh, pastor emeritus, will be the liturgist.
The congregation will join in the singing of familiar carols, and participate in a candle lighting service. The service will conclude with the traditional “ringing in of Christmas” as 40 members and alumni of the Geneva Handbell Choir and Westminster Ringers peal handbells while the congregation sings “Joy to the World.”
All are invited to join in this celebration of Christ’s birth. Preschool childcare will be provided and ample parking is available.
