Block party organized at Chestnut Crossing

COSHOCTON – Zach Endsley and Audri Moran enjoyed a sunny Sunday afternoon at the ninth annual Chestnut Crossing Block Party.
“I’m going to be in the dunking booth later,” Endsley said.
Moran quickly added that she was going to try to dunk him, but was also excited about the stuffed cat he won for her.
In addition to the dunking booth and the chance to win prizes at various games, the Aug. 20 celebration also included horse rides, slushies, inflatables, face painting, the opportunity to take an up close look at a Three Rivers Fire Truck, music, free food, a cornhole tournament and much more.
The annual block party was organized by Angie Cantrell, outreach program director with the Chestnut Cross Learning Center.
She runs the learning center year round and offers programs for children and adults.
“My main focus is the children and I’m here to help them with homework, science fair projects and even can try to figure out how to help if they come to me with problems like their parents being about to get their electricity shut off,” Cantrell said. “I also bring programs to them like Girl Scouts and programs offered by First Step, will help them prepare for college and will help adults with resumes and job applications.”
She started hosting the block party right before school starts as a way to give the kids a fun free event before summer ends that they don’t have to worry about how to get to.
“A lot of these kids miss out on our county fair so this is their own little fair that they can be involved in,” Cantrell said.
She added that she is able to keep the block party free because of the help of many organizations including Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Three Rivers Fire District, Renee Corbett and family, Women of Witness, the Presbyterian Ladies, Coshocton County Department of Job and Family Services and The Barcus Company.
