Disney themed breakfast to help send RVHS students to Florida
WARSAW – The River View High School Music Department upcoming pancake breakfast will feature some special guests and fun for the whole family.
The Disney-themed breakfast will feature costumed characters, a Disney movie to enjoy while you eat, a coloring contest and face painting.
“Disney is very particular with its copyright, but I can tell you there will be a boy and girl mouse there and some princesses,” said Dawn Anglin, choir director at RVHS. “Some of our kids dress up in costumes and it creates a fun atmosphere.”
The pancake breakfast is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 2 in the RVHS cafeteria. Cost is $5 or by donation for those under 5 years of age. The meal includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage links (small donation for extra sausage), milk, juice and coffee, which is being donated by Hannah Marie’s.
She explained that the music department likes to give band and choir students the opportunity to travel to Disney every four years and this fundraiser helps offset transportation costs for the trip.
“It’s $10,000 a bus and just for our two buses that’s $20,000 in transportation,” Anglin said.
While at Disney, the band students have the opportunity to perform in a parade and the choir members sing on an outdoor stage.
“This year we are adding an additional component that we haven’t done the last two years where the students will be able to actually work with Disney musicians,” Anglin said.
The band will create a Disney soundtrack and the choir will record an excerpt from a Disney animated movie.
“We like to do this so the kids have a chance to travel and experience a different part of the country,” Anglin said. “A lot of these kids have never been to the beach so we make sure we take time for that too. It’s a great experience for them to be out on the road and in a bigger city atmosphere. They also get the opportunity to see our craft in conjunction with occupations. Kids often think the only thing you can do with a music degree is become a music teacher, but this shows them there are many different career paths.”
