WARSAW – River View Local Schools celebrated the end of its One School, One Book program on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 with breakfast and fun activities for students and their families.

“One of our goals as a district is to create an interest and love of reading, but that has to take place at home and school,” said Tracey Herron, principal at Warsaw

Elementary.

To help work toward that goal, all pre-k through sixth grade students in the district started the school year out by receiving a copy of Judy Blume’s “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing” and a reading schedule for the family to follow.

Trivia questions about the story were asked and activities dealing with the book were worked into the school day.

“The little boy in the book is as ornery as can be so there were lots of lessons we could work with,” Herron said.

Second grade teacher Janie Sarchet is glad Warsaw and the entire district participates in the One School, One Book program.

“I love it because it gets the family involved and builds a love of reading,” she said.
