COSHOCTON – Addiction can be overcome and recovery is possible.

Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices marked National Recovery Month with a free tailgate lunch for family, friends, and neighbors who are celebrating personal recovery.

One of the people who attended the event was Shana Courtney. She has worked with CBHC for almost five years now and has seen important changes in her life during that time.

“I have respect now for myself and others,” Courtney said. “I look at the world differently today and I’m a productive part of the society.”

CBHC’s tailgate took place on Sept. 28 at the court square gazebo and included a lunch of hot dogs, chips, cupcakes and water. Attendees also enjoyed music and a personal countdown celebration.

“The state had a celebration yesterday (Sept. 27) in Columbus and we wanted to give our people an opportunity to celebrate recovery,” said Tyra Hixon, who works for CBHC.

Courtney thought the tailgate was a great idea and a nice way for people to come together and show their support.

“Today I live, rather than exist,” Courtney said.
