Costume class brings out creative side of horse show participants

COSHOCTON – Kyler Thompson had a big smile on his face after winning the costume class in the open horse show on Oct. 3 at the Coshocton County Fair.
“I’ve done this two times already and I can’t believe I keep getting first,” he said.
Thompson and his horse were Thomas The Train and his sister Kaitlyn helped pull off the costume by dressing as a conductor and leading the horse around.
“I hope the judge didn’t ask him anything about Thomas because he really knows his Thomas The Train and can talk about him,” said Nancy March, Kyler’s grandmother.
Nancy and her husband Randy bought Kyler his horse and she helps with his costumes.
“Her wheels are already turning for his next costume,” Randy said.
Prior to presenting awards, the judge for the contest announced that Coshocton had some of the best participants in the costume class that she has seen. Participants turned themselves and their horses into bumble bees and bee keepers, firefighters, soldiers, video game characters and much more.
The judge told the crowd that she could tell they had put a lot of time into their themes and concepts and she liked that several of them worked as groups. She felt everyone who participated deserved a round of applause.
