It’s a great time of the year here in Coshocton County! Depending on which survey you look at, fall ranks high in the popularity of seasons. Gallup shows that spring is the favorite time of the year for most Americans – at 36%, with fall held in favor by 27% and summer at 25%. Winter, of course, is the laggard at only 11%.

This weekend delivers a plethora of fall activities for all ages with the ever popular Apple Butter Stirrin’ at Roscoe Village, the annual Fall Foliage and Farm Tour on Saturday and Sunday and the 8th annual “Parktoberfest” chili cook-off at the River View Community Park in Warsaw on Saturday afternoon from 4 to 7 pm. Throw in the various football games, cross country, volleyball and soccer for many and you have a beautiful time of the year with lots of good stuff happening.

The U.S. could have a decision to make in regard to Iraq and the Kurds. According to the New York Times, Iraqi forces have begun a move to capture the city of Kirkuk and its surrounding oil fields. The region voted to be autonomous last month. This continues the decades long tensions between Iraq and the Kurds, who live mainly in the northern region of Iraq. The U.S. has supplied and trained both armies.

Is Mr. Weinstein being used as a convenient scapegoat for the rest of Hollywood? According to many sources, his actions were known to many, told to many and reported by many – but to be covered up or outright denied. It seems now that the public sentiment has shifted those that supported him are – shall we say – conveniently distancing themselves from someone that took shameful advantage of women for far too long. Is anyone asking this question – would the influencers in Hollywood have done something if this had not become public knowledge?

Depending on which survey you look at, the popularity of the NFL is decreasing – again – this largely depends on which survey you study. This only reinforces what all of us should already know – you need to be careful with surveys.

After the Buckeyes shredded the Cornhuskers in a 56-14 rout, they get a week off before returning to take on the Nittany Lions – in what will be considered a revenge matchup. So the next game is Oct. 28, not this Saturday! The Buckeyes have played their way back to the number six spot in both polls while Penn State is number two. It should be a great one on the 28th!

Of course, last week at this time I was writing about the Indians. What is there left to say that has not been said by folks a lot more knowledgeable and familiar with the team than I am? Not much except that, like everyone else, I am wondering what just happened. In a season of “shoulda, woulda, coulda”, the Indians failed to live up to the performance of the last two months in the post season. Put an asterisk on that winning streak.
