Reed Weekly

COSHOCTON – Over the years Reed Weekly has heard nothing but positive stories from his friends who travel to Coshocton County every year to deer hunt.

Weekly, a resident of Scarecrow Town wasn’t much of a hunter, but his friends kept telling him there is more to Coshocton than the Woodbury Wildlife Area. Lake Park has great walking trails and every year there is this amazing mud run that raises funds for the park, where you can also find a canal boat ride. Speaking of canal boats, he couldn’t get his friends’ wives to stop talking about Roscoe Village. They explained to him that it’s a restored canal era town with unique shops, restaurants and historical features. Plus the county features wineries and breweries and this time of year there is a campground that has a corn maze and several other family friendly activities.

All the information was starting to overwhelm Weekly so he asked his friends to write it down for him. They laughed and told him there was no need for a pen and paper. Weekly gave them a puzzled look, but they quickly explained that Coshocton has a mobile app that explains everything about the community. The app called, toCoshocton, can be downloaded for free by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. This great little community oriented, family owned, weekly newspaper called “The Beacon” and the Coshocton County Convention & Visitors Bureau partnered together to create the app. “The Beacon” is located at 226 Main St. and has other publications like its “Portrait Magazine” that can help you learn more about Coshocton County. They also publish the annual CVB visitors’ guide and a Coshocton County map in conjunction with the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce.

After downloading the app Weekly was ready to hit the road and head out to Coshocton County. He planned to make his first stop Clary Gardens, which he discovered was having a scarecrow trail organized by the Clary Garden Foundation. Businesses and organizations were invited to create scarecrows that will be displayed at the gardens during the month of October. Those creations will then be judged by garden patrons, but there also will be a people’s choice category. The event is free to the public, but participation fees paid by the scarecrow creators will go toward capital improvements in the garden.

Clary Gardens is located at 588 W. Chestnut St. For more information on the gardens or the scarecrow trail, call 740-622-6524, visit www.ClaryGardens.org, or e-mail director@clarygardens.org. Clary Gardens is open free to the public every day during daylight hours.
