Support group for grieving moms starting
FRESNO – Kathy Cutshall knows what it’s like to lose a child and she wants to help others in the same situation.
She will host the first meeting of a group called Silent Grief at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, at the home beside Fresno Bible Church, 24629 State Route 93 in Fresno.
“I lost a child 13 years ago and a son- in-law to be,” she said. “It’s been a long journey. In the spring I met two sweet ladies from West Virginia who had both lost adult children within nine months of each other and started a group called Moms of Angels. I looked it up on the Internet and felt this was something our community could use.”
Cutshall wants the group meetings to be a safe and comfortable place for people to share about children they have lost.
“When you lose a child it seems people are uncomfortable to talk to you about them or ask you questions, but talking about them is what keeps them alive,” she said. “I want them to be able to come here and share, even if it’s anger that they are feeling. I want this to be a place that they can cry and heal, but also feel encouraged. There is hope. It will get better. The pain never goes away, but you are able to live again. You have to look for things that will help you. I have another daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren that live a mile down the road and I don’t know what I would do without them.”
Cutshall welcomes anyone who has lost a child, even if it was from a miscarriage to come to the group’s first meeting. She also noted that while the meeting is being held next to Fresno Bible Church the group is not tied to any religion or church.
“I’m hoping to hold the meetings monthly, but if I see the need is greater I’ll have them more often,” she said. “I’d also like to know the moms’ birthdays, their children’s birthdays and dates of deaths so I can help them through those times and the holidays because I know it’s hard.”
