Black Bears boys’ varsity cross country headed to state
COSHOCTON – For only the fourth time in school history River View will be sending a contingent of runners to the state cross country meet after finishing seventh in the team rankings at the regional meet in Pickerington held on Saturday, Oct. 28. Senior Sawyer Neal placed 25th overall with a time of 16:58.22 earning 20 points for the Black Bears. Senior Austin Hill came in 59th, with a time of 17:37.98, freshman Nathaniel Stamper placed 68th with a time of 17:44.60, senior Lane Beatty came in 87th with a time of 18:02.92, junior Nick Grashel placed 125th with a time of 18:36.76, junior Patrick Stanton placed 158th with a time of 19:29.95 and junior Colton Miller placed 169th with a time of 19:42.62. Each runner earns points for their team provided the team sent seven runners to the meet – which River View did. The top seven teams advance to the state meet. In cross country meets, the team with the lowest points wins.
Ridgewood Generals sophomore Trevor Hawkins earned his way to the regional meet in Pickerington and finished 70th with a time of 17:45.12.
There were 181 male runners representing 22 teams with several runners competing individually in the regional meet. One hundred and fifty-three lady runners competed at the event. Both male and female high school cross country runners run a 5k.
Seven lady runners represented a young but talented Black Bears girls’ varsity cross country team at the Pickerington regional meet held on Saturday, Oct. 28 with sophomore Aliya Stevens placing 59th at a time of 21:04.02. Freshman Sydney Stewart placed 69th with a time of 21:13.64. Senior Cassidi Bookless placed 102nd with a time of 22:01.20 while senior Nicole Bryant came in 111th with a time of 22:22.24. Junior Alicia Lonsinger placed 135th at 23:14.83 and junior Josie Morris placed 146th with a time of 24:44.10 and sophomore Kaitlyn Stanton placed 148th at a time of 25:13.62. The Black Bears lady runners placed 16th out of 19 teams.
The state cross country meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at National Trail Raceway.
