CHS hosting 14th annual community Thanksgiving dinner
COSHOCTON – The community is invited to come enjoy a free Thanksgiving meal from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 at Coshocton High School.
This is the 14th year for the event that Grant Fauver said has been going on since before he was principal.
“It’s just a great community event,” he said. “We serve 600 plus meals every year. People just keep coming back and it’s a great way for our kids to give back to the community. Back in the day we even had buses running people back and forth, but we haven’t had a need for that lately. Carryout and take out have helped accommodate people.”
Many different groups of youth help make the event run smoothly.
“I’d probably forget to name all the groups because there are so many of them that help,” Fauver said. “All of our service organization groups help and so do the Boy Scouts. The list goes on and on for all those involved. It’s a well organized event and the food is pretty good. My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now.”
Music and drama students also add to the event by sharing their talents.
“Our jazz band will be belting out the holiday tunes and hopefully the chamber choir will be singing,” Fauver said. “Our drama club always does a presentation of its fall production the night of the dinner too. This year they will be doing ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ a comedy classic that starts that Thursday and runs through the weekend.”
The play is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 and at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 in CHS’s McKinley Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are available at the door. Doors open one hour prior to curtain time.
Fauver encourages the community to come out to the dinner and stay for the play, but highly recommends reservations for the meal.
“Everyone is welcome,” Fauver said. “We don’t turn anybody away. Just call the high school office in advance for reservations. Walk-ins are welcome, but it’s better to call. We will probably shut down reservations that Monday to help us start preparing.”

“I’m glad the kids get to do this for that feeling of paying it forward,” Fauver said. “It gives you a good feeling inside.”
