‘Anything Goes’ at this year’s minstrel show
WARSAW – “Anything Goes” at this year’s Lion’s Club’s minstrel show. The performances will be Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m. at the River View High School.
Performers are free to choose whatever they’d like to do for this year’s show. Most performers are the same faces audiences will remember from years past including Dave Esselburn, who is returning this year as a soloist.
Currently, there are four skits determined, with hopefully two more to be determined soon. Jokes and laughter are thrown in in between scenes for comedy relief and lots of fun. There is a 50-member chorus this year, plus a four-member band.
“I think it’s just because we try to stay away from political garb,” said Jean Haumschild about why the show is so successful. “It’s somewhere you can go and laugh and see your friends and see what the community has to offer and have a good evening. You can see people in a whole different light.”
In addition to the show, the River View Park Board will be serving a spaghetti dinner before the show. Dinner will be served Friday and Saturday from 5 – 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.
The show will have something for everyone including country, gospel, and modern music.
“We tried to do a wide-variety of songs to fit our ‘Anything Goes’ theme,” said Haumschild.
She said the minstrel show is a good, family-friendly event where not only the audience has fun, but the performers do as well.
“We have a lot of fun,” she said. “We laugh a lot in practice. There are a lot of funny things that happen on stage that we don’t ask for, but it makes it all come together.”
For tickets to the minstrel show, call 740-622-5031 Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. – 1 p .m. Tickets to the show are $10. The spaghetti dinner is not included in the ticket price.
