Veterans Day celebrated on court square

COSHOCTON – Vietnam Veterans who attended the annual Veterans Day Ceremony on the court square received a heartfelt welcome home from Dave Dilly.
Dilly, a local Air Force and Vietnam War Veteran, who was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Class of 2017, was the featured speaker at the Nov. 10 event.
“Yesterday was an amazing day,” he said about the Nov. 9, hall of fame ceremony. “It was hard to accept though as I know there are so many here who are as deserving of it if not more deserving than me.”
From 2000 to 2006, he assisted veterans by serving as the Coshocton County Veterans Service Officer. Today, he is actively involved with the Honor Flight program, serves on the Coshocton County Honor Guard, which performs military funerals for veterans, and is involved in numerous other areas of the community.
“Life can be rough roads and I like to think that I was able to make life a little bit better for some,” Dilly said. “I love this country, I love Ohio, I love Coshocton, and all of you. God Bless America and all of you.”
He was then presented with a joint commendation from the Coshocton County Commissioners and the City of Coshocton. Commissioner Gary Fischer read the commendation to those in attendance and took a moment to thank the audience.
“Thank you to each and every one of you who came out today to honor our veterans and their families on this special day,” Fischer said.
Also participating in the ceremony was Rev. Bryan Kittner who gave the opening and closing prayer and Lynn Leach, a member of the Blue Star Mothers Chapter OH59, who encouraged people to come learn more about her organization.
“Our chapter supports local active military members and veterans and we are a support for each other who have members of their families in the military,” Leach said.

Patriotic music was provided by the Walhonding Rube Band and Samuel Scott, a sophomore at Kent State University, who sang a rendition of the Armed Forces Medley. TAPS was performed and the Honor Guard fired a three-volley salute.
“I want to personally thank every single veteran here for their service to our county,” Scott said.
