West Lafayette welcoming Christmas season
WEST LAFAYETTE – The Village of West Lafayette is kicking off the Christmas season with a variety of activities on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Christmas in the Village will start off with the Club Aries’ craft show at the First Baptist Church, 688 E. Main St. This event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include vendors from the Coshocton County Relay for Life sponsored Christmas Festival, which is merging with the craft show.
“We are hoping to have close to 40 vendors,” said Carol Wears from Club Aries. “It will range anywhere from Tastefully Simple to Scentsy to wreaths, quilts and a whole variety of things.”
Club Aries, a civic organization in West Lafayette, has been in existence since 1973 and Wears is the only original member.
“We’ve done this craft show now for probably about 25 years,” she said. “We have a small organization and don’t have a lot of members. This is really our only money making project. Everything we make we try to give to a family somewhere in the Ridgewood School District, but not so much at Christmas time because there are so many helping people at this time. The fellow we go through sometimes holds our money to help pay people’s gas or electric bills in January or February and the last couple of years I’ve donated to the animal shelter too.”
The craft show features a food stand and Wears said she enjoys getting together with the club members and getting in the holiday spirit.
“I like seeing the people that come and I usually wear antlers and a blinking necklace,” Wears said. “It’s fun and I enjoy the crafters.”
You also can start the morning of Dec. 2 off with a 5K through the village to benefit Ridgewood’s cross country program.
Wendy Croy, who is helping organize the race, said it will start at 9 a.m. and registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Burt Park. Cost is $20 day of the race or $15 for preregistration. For more information, call Croy at 740-502-2590.
The annual Christmas Parade begins at 1 p.m. Lineup for the parade will be at Ridgewood Middle School in the parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Parade route will be Oak Street to Russell Avenue to SR 751 and it will end at the First Baptist Church. Santa will arrive at the church after the parade.
