94-year-old retires from Maternal and Child Health Center
COSHOCTON – Erma Downer recently celebrated her third retirement.
The 94-year-old worked in ladies apparel shops for years, but this time around she was retiring from the Maternal and Child Health Center.
She officially started there in 2008. Prior to that she worked there with the Experience Works program and when her time at the center was up she was hired.
Erma has been working two days a week as a file clerk and said the people have been wonderful to work with.
“I don’t really know how to put it, but they’ve been enjoyable,” she said. “These people have been great to me. We get a day’s work done, but yet have fun.”
Downer’s retirement party was held on Nov. 30 at the Coshocton County Services Building where the Maternal and Child Health Center is located.
“I don’t know how to thank them (my co-workers) for what all they did and what they do all the time,” she said. “Every single one of them has been wonderful to me.”
Downer said she has worked all her life and isn’t sure exactly what she will do with her time now, but knows she won’t be idle.
“I’m never bored,” she said. “I always find something to do or someone to help.”
