As we head into the holiday season and celebrate time with family and friends, our community is blessed to have a nice selection of events to enjoy. The first candle lighting of the season was held at Roscoe Village on Saturday evening with another scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 9. The tree is beautiful!

You can enjoy some of our community’s finest performers at the Triple Locks Theater holiday performances or perhaps you attended the Coshocton Community Choir concert this past Sunday at Coshocton High School. The Higher Hopes benefit auction was held at River View High School and is truly for a great cause. Thanks to all those that donated to this worthy event.

Santa Claus made his way into the village of West Lafayette on Saturday as people of all ages lined the streets to enjoy floats, music and more.
For something that costs only a little bit of gas and time, you can take the kiddies to view the many Christmas lights that bedeck homes throughout Coshocton County. That typically brings a smile to the face of youngsters and adults alike. There are some folks that go above and beyond in this area with the realization that they are helping to brighten someone’s day – or evening I guess! Thanks.

The Tri- Valley Scotties are to be congratulated on their state runner-up finish in high school football. Making it to the championship game is indeed a great honor and an accomplishment that these young men, their coaches, the school and all those that support the team can be proud of for the rest of their lives. The game came down to the final drive against Trotwood-Madison and you can’t ask for much more than that. Nice job Scotties!

The Cleveland Browns are now 0-12 with the very real chance to finish the current campaign without a win. But there is a positive side right? The number one pick in the draft.

Despite a tough win over the previously unbeaten and fourth ranked Wisconsin Badgers, the Buckeyes are on the outside looking in on the college football playoff with Alabama securing the fourth spot. The lopsided loss to Iowa was the key. The Buckeyes will face the USC Trojans in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 29 in Arlington, Texas. As everyone knows, the history between USC and OSU runs deep as the traditional Rose Bowl game pitted the Big Ten conference champion against the Pac 10 conference champion. The Buckeyes have a 22-24 overall bowl game record.

The news out of the Korean peninsula is not good. The U. S. and South Korean air forces are involved in a week long exercise involving the F-22 Raptor and other stealth aircraft according to many online sources. Hopefully this can all be solved peacefully by diplomats or the United Nations.

The Senate passed the Tax Reform bill by a vote of 51-49 early Saturday morning and the bill now heads to various committees and then the House before it makes it to the White House. The bill received no Democratic support and it took a marathon session to pass including concessions for some of the higher state and local tax states to receive support for passage. If tax reform puts more money in the pocket of the average American – it should be a positive thing. The debt can is a concern.
